At Toybox, our mission is to make it super easy for kids to design and print anything they can imagine. We're excited to show off our easy-to-use Build experience, which lets anyone create cool designs and send them straight to their printer.

How do you use it?

We’ve designed the controls to be easy, but with any new tool, it can take a little time to discover all the tricks! Here’s a quick guide to help you

Moving, Scaling, and Rotating Your Model

The main way to interact with your model is using the Transform Controls right on top of your object.
To make your object bigger or smaller or Scale, grab the box on top of your model and drag it up or down. You can also type in the exact size you want!

To Rotate and moving are just as easy. Want to rotate your model? Grab one of the colorful arrows to turn it in different directions. To Move your object around, just grab it anywhere and drag it to where you want.

Pro TipIf you drag it inside the circle it will help you jump by 22.5 degrees at a time and if you drag outside of the circle you get even more control).

Need More Control?

If you want more flexibility, like lifting your model off the floor or stretching it in one direction, no problem! Look for the Snap to Buildplate and Scale Sides Equally options and turn them on or off to get extra control.

Made a Mistake? No Worries!

Everyone makes mistakes—it's totally okay! Use the Undo and Redo buttons in the top right corner to go back or forward a step.
Pro Tip: If you’re using a keyboard, you can press Ctrl+Z to undo and Ctrl+Y to redo.

Fine-Tuning Your Design

For more precise adjustments, open the Transform menu by pressing the edit button, where you can enter exact values for scaling, rotation, and movement.

Adding New Shapes

Now that you know how to move your objects, it’s time to start building! Use the Add menu on the right to add shapes to your creation by either tapping or dragging them into place.

Each shape comes with a Properties tab that lets you change its shape in fun ways. Try them all out to see what you can create!

Managing Your Objects

After adding a few shapes, the Objects menu helps you manage them. You can make copies, delete objects, or organize them.
Pro Tip: You can also use keyboard shortcuts like Ctrl+C (copy), Ctrl+V (paste), and the Delete key.

Using the Tools for Advanced Creations

Want to take things to the next level? Check out these Tools:

Combine This merges the selected objects into one using a process called Constructive Solid Geometry, making them stick together
Subtract Removes your selected object’s shape from other models—perfect for making holes.
Split Cuts a model into two pieces, like using scissors! You can choose to keep both pieces or just one.
Separate This is a special case tool. Sometimes your model gets added and there are multiple different pieces in it. This tools let you separate them into individual pieces that you can move around separately. (Note: this only works if the shapes are completely separate, and if you combine two shape you won't always be able to separate them later)
Duplicate Makes a copy of the selected Object.
Arrange Organizes all your models neatly in the print area, which is helpful when printing multiple objects.
Place on Face Lets you lay an object flat on different sides, great for ensuring your model is level.
Drag Quickly move and connect objects by grabbing the small circles that appear on your objects

Ready to Print?

Once you’ve finished creating, click Build Settings next to the Create button. Adjust the settings as needed, then press Create to prepare your model for printing. If your creation needs extra support, we’ll let you know and help you add it.

Using build settings

Need to adjust more settings try these options under the Build tab:

Print Speed This setting allows you to balance speed with print quality. Adjustments here can impact settings like layer height, helping you find the right blend of detail and efficiency.
Adhesion

Adhesion settings help ensure your print sticks securely to the build plate, with several options available:

  • Skirt: Adds a small outline around the model to clear any excess filament before printing begins.
  • Brim: Adds a thin, flat layer around the print to stabilize larger models.
  • None: For larger prints that take up nearly the entire build plate, you may opt for no additional adhesion. However, this can increase the risk of the print detaching.
Support

Supports provide structure for overhangs or other areas that might struggle to print unsupported. Choose between:

  • Basic: Straight-down supports ideal for standard applications.
  • Tree: Branched supports that can reach trickier areas and are generally recommended for most prints.
Support Placement

This setting controls where supports are generated:

  • Build Plate Only: Supports are limited to the build plate, making removal easier, though it may use more material.
  • Everywhere: Supports can be generated on top of the model itself, often reducing print time but potentially making removal more challenging.

Not quite right?

If you want to make more changes after this, just click Edit to jump back into your design.
