Can I use 3rd party filament?

If you're looking for a color that we don't carry in our store, you can absolutely purchase filament from 3rd party sources as long as it's 1.75mm PLA filament.

When buying filament from 3rd party sources, it’s very easy to end up with inconsistent sizes and materials of filament. Sometimes they can be labeled wrong. Sometimes the thickness of the filament can vary (sometimes they can be too thin or too thick in different parts of the roll). If the filament is too thick, it will not be able to fit through the inner tubes of the extruder and nothing will come out. Please make sure you are using 1.75mm PLA filament. A Toybox will not work with any other size or filament type!

You can double check that the thickness is actually 1.75mm with a caliper if you're unsure. Sometimes the thickness can be correct, but cheap manufacturers will occasionally make the filament out of a different type of material and label it as PLA.

3rd party filament will not void your warranty, but you should do the following:

• Check to make sure it's the proper size (1.75mm)
• Make sure it's PLA (other filament types have different melting temps)
• Avoid filament with specks, flecks, or glitter - they're very prone to clogging!
