The nozzle should be close enough that a piece of paper should be able to graze the nozzle and slide underneath but not rip.

If your Comet is calibrated too far from the print bed, the nozzle won't be able to lay down the food correctly, resulting in stringy, nonuniform prints. The layers won't adhere together.

If your Comet is calibrated too close, the nozzle can scrape the bed and cause other issues, such as shifting prints or a grinding noise from the nozzle scraping the filament. It will also cause the prints to be extremely hard to pull off.

To ensure your Comet is making the best quality prints, you're aiming for the perfect range of close-but-not-too-close, far-but-not-too-far.
